Refractory Bricks

Refractoriness for ZINC smelting furnace

Dec 10,2018

In the smelting process of zinc, the lining material should be in contact with molten metal, slag and furnace gas. This requires refractory materials and masonry to have good slag resistance. At the same time, the lining material can adapt to the high temperature in the zinc smelting process. It is required to have sufficient refractoriness, load softening temperature, and erosion resistance.

At present, most manufacturers' zinc-making electric furnaces mainly use carbon bricks and aluminum-chromium bricks (commonly known as chromium slag bricks, some manufacturers are trying to use high-aluminum bricks. The refractoriness of these three kinds of refractory materials can meet the temperature requirements of electric furnace smelting zinc, and its resistance See the table below for a comparison of slag and economy.

At present, the lining refractory materials below the bottom of the zinc-smelting electric furnace and the slag line of the furnace wall are selected in the following forms:

(1) All carbon bricks have a service life of 4 to 5 months. The disadvantage is that the masonry bricks have poor slag resistance and are prone to brick bricks at the bottom of the furnace. Forming a solidified pseudo-furnace liner below the melt temperature can greatly reduce the loss of refractory materials, achieve the purpose of prolonging the life of the lining, increasing the smelting strength of the reaction zone, and improving productivity.

(2) All use chromium slag bricks, the service life can reach 4 to 5 months, the disadvantage is high cost.

(3) The carbon slag brick used in the bottom of the furnace and the carbon brick below the slag line of the furnace wall can last for 4 to 5 months. This combination can not only guarantee a certain lining life, but also reduce the cost of the lining. This combination of furnace materials is more suitable.

(4) All high alumina bricks are used. At present, only 1~2 manufacturers are trying, and it is recommended that it is not suitable at present. Because the smelting process is very successful for similar zinc powder electric furnace, the life of the lining can reach 10~12 months, and the cost is very low. It is worthy of further research and exploration. If it is successful, it is worthy of widespread application.
